Inconel HX, also known as Hastelloy X is a nickel- chromium- iron- molybdenum alloy with great resistance to oxidation. The alloy’s oxidation resistance is outstanding up to 2200º F. For hot forming, the alloy should be heated to a starting temperature of 2150°F (1175°C). Inconel HX can be welded by metal arc, gas-tungsten- arc, gas-metal-arc, and submerged arc processes.

Hastelloy X is a nickel-based superalloy known for its excellent combination of high temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and formability. Here are some key material advantages of Hastelloy X:
High Temperature Strength: Hastelloy X maintains structural integrity under high temperature conditions, which makes it suitable for applications in aerospace and industrial furnaces.
Oxidation Resistance: The alloy exhibits exceptional resistance to oxidation, even at temperatures up to 1200°C (2200°F). This property is critical for applications in gas turbine engines and chemical processing equipment where exposure to high temperatures and corrosive environments is common.
Corrosion Resistance: Apart from oxidation, Hastelloy X is also highly resistant to corrosion by a wide range of chemicals, including most industrial acids and alkalis. This makes it ideal for chemical processing applications that involve corrosive substances.
Formability: Despite its durability, Hastelloy X is remarkably formable. It can be welded, forged, and worked similarly to many stainless steels, which facilitates complex engineering designs.
Creep Resistance: The alloy offers excellent resistance to creep deformation at high temperatures, which is a vital attribute for components exposed to prolonged high temperatures.

Hastelloy X is particularly valued for its high temperature strength and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for various demanding applications across multiple industries. Here are some of the primary applications of Hastelloy X:
Aerospace Industry: Hastelloy X is extensively used in the aerospace industry for manufacturing parts of gas turbine engines, such as combustion zone components including combustor cans and flame holders. Its ability to withstand high temperatures and corrosive environments makes it ideal for these applications.
Industrial Furnaces: In industrial settings, Hastelloy X is used for furnace hardware, and in the construction of muffles, retorts, and heat treating equipment. The material's high temperature strength and oxidation resistance ensure long service life and reliability in these high-heat environments.
Chemical Processing: Due to its excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, Hastelloy X is used in chemical processing equipment, such as reactors, evaporators, and heat exchangers. It performs well in handling high temperature, corrosive chemicals, and solvents.
Gas Turbine Components: Besides aerospace gas turbines, Hastelloy X is used in land-based gas turbines for power generation, particularly in parts exposed to the highest temperatures, such as transition ducts, combustor liners, and spray bars.
Petrochemical Industry: The alloy is suitable for petrochemical applications including furnace baffles, tubes for pyrolysis operations (cracking of hydrocarbons in the production of ethylene), and catalyst support grids in nitric acid production.
Nuclear Engineering: Hastelloy X is also found in nuclear engineering for components such as nuclear reactor cores and heat exchanger tubing, where its resistance to corrosion by high-temperature water and steam is critical.
