Duplex 2507 Overview

Duplex 2507 is a super duplex stainless steel intended for use in applications that require high strength and corrosion resistance. Alloy 2507 comprises 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. High molybdenum, chromium, and nitrogen contents make the alloy more resistant to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion attacks. Besides, having a duplex microstructure makes 2507 alloy have very good resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Do not use Duplex 2507 for applications over 600° F (316° C). Long high-temperature exposure may lower the toughness and corrosion resistance of alloy 2507. Duplex 2507 has very good mechanical properties; frequently, a light gauge of material may be used to attain the same design strength of a thicker nickel alloy. Weight savings result in significantly lower fabrication costs.


Corrosion Resistance

2507 Duplex is highly resistant to uniform organic acids, such as formic and acetic acids. It is also highly resistant to inorganic acids, especially those that contain chlorides. Alloy 2507 exhibits resistance to intergranular carbide-related corrosion. Owing to the ferritic phase of the duplex structure of the alloy, it is highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-bearing environments at elevated temperatures. The addition of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen improves resistance to localized attack, such as pitting and crevice corrosion. Alloy 2507 provides excellent localized pitting resistance.
